Linda grew up close to her cousins and extended family in Haret Hreik, in Beirut’s southern suburbs, but was often happiest with a book. She spent long stretches at the library, moving from novels toward nonfiction, particularly psychology. She also loved making things by hand. At thirteen, she began sewing independently and taking part in arts and crafts activities organized by the municipality.
Difficulties in her personal life affected her wellbeing and grades during high school. After her parents divorced, she took on much of the household responsibility, helped care for her younger brothers, and contributed financially. She worked as a waitress, in a call center, and as a project coordinator, gradually feeling more disconnected from the things she had once enjoyed.
After a year and a half of working, Linda began reading again and making a deliberate effort to return to her interests. Having studied English literature, she found in writing a way to explore her feelings, while resin art and candle making offered other forms of expression. As her outlook changed, she noticed her work shifting from anger toward hope.
Applying to CSB felt like a long shot, especially as she had not sewn in years. Yet preparing her application excited her, and the workshops reminded her how much joy she found in working with her hands. Delighted to be accepted, Linda now wants to develop the technical skills to give her ideas greater range and discover a design language she recognizes as her own.
